At The George Inn we pride ourselves on our ever changing offer of Real Ales many of which are dispensed direct from cask on the back bar. We are Cask Marque accredited and through Punch Taverns are able to benefit from choosing our Real Ales from their Finest Cask range which changes every eight weeks.
We do not stock one regular Real Ale but change them on a continuous basis, we do however have some firm favourites (Otter Bitter, Skinners Betty Stogs, Sharps Own and Black Sheet Bitter to name but a few) among our regulars that do come round on rotation quicker than others. The board above the bar in the Quarr Bar is regularly updated to display the current Real Ales on offer along with those soon to be available.
RATS Club
Wednesday nights at The George Inn is known as RATS night (Real Ale Tasting Society) this is a free to join club but you will receive a membership card which entitles you to a 10% discount on Real Ales on RATS nights. A draw is made each week from those members in attendance on the night whom we crown the King Rat, this entitles that member to choose a beer for order from the Finest Cask list which will be made ready to dispense two weeks after the selection.
Through the RATS club we aim to organise ale related trips, so far we have visited Dorchester Beerex and a further trip is planned to Newton Abbot Beer Festival on Friday 15th April 2011.
The Portland Red Triangle Cricket Club Beer Festival
The George Inn Garden/Marquee plays host to the annual Portland Red Triangle St George’s Day Beer Festival. For 2011 this also falls over the Easter weekend and will therefore start at 12 noon on Friday 22nd April and will finish on Monday 25th April. The festival will include 20 Real Ales, 7 Ciders and Grandma’s Weapons Grade Ginger Beer. Prices are £2.50 a pint and £1.30 for 1/2 pint.
Proceeds from the festival go towards the cricket club as this is their main fundraising event for the upcoming season. The George Inn will still have it’s own normal selection of Real Ales available throughout the weekend.
